5-Day Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Adventure in Queen Elizabeth National Park

This 5-day Uganda gorilla and wildlife safari is crafted for travelers who want big experiences in a short time. Your journey begins with a scenic drive via the Uganda Equator, where you'll pause for photos and a brief orientation before continuing to the legendary Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for mountain gorilla trekking. Deep in the mist-covered forest, you'll follow experienced guides along ancient trails until you meet a habituated gorilla family in their natural habitat—a rare and emotional encounter that is often the highlight of any African safari.

After Bwindi, you head to Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda's most diverse and dramatic landscapes. Here you'll search for tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector, scan the plains for elephants and buffalo on game drives, and enjoy a relaxed boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, where hippos, crocodiles, and prolific birdlife crowd the shores. Along the way, you'll pass through rural communities, enjoy scenic crater lake vistas, and cross the famous equator line, giving you a rich mix of culture, scenery, and wildlife.

Designed to maximize your time in the parks and minimize long transfers, this concise 5-day itinerary delivers gorilla tracking, classic safari game viewing, and iconic Ugandan landscapes in one seamless, action-filled trip.

Safari Information
Day 1 — Arrival & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Begin your gorilla adventure immediately after landing in Entebbe with an 8–9-hour drive to Bwindi. Enjoy scenic stops along the way, including the Uganda Equator crossing, where you'll discover the science behind the Coriolis effect.

The journey passes through charming rural communities and beautiful countryside before reaching your lodge near the park entrance. Though a long transfer day, it places you perfectly for tomorrow's unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.

Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner

Day 2 — Exclusive Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Experience

Today, trek through the forest in search of the magnificent mountain gorillas. The trek can take approximately 2–8 hours, depending on the gorillas' location, with your experienced guide setting a comfortable pace throughout the journey.

After your unforgettable hour with the gorillas, enjoy a cultural visit with the Batwa people, one of Uganda's original forest communities. Learn about their rich traditions, heritage, and deep connection to the forest ecosystem they share with the mountain gorillas.

What to Wear/Bring: Wear sturdy hiking boots and bring gardening gloves to help navigate the steep, muddy trails.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3 — Transfer to Queen Elizabeth & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

Today, the journey shifts dramatically from Uganda's forested highlands to the sweeping savannas of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The 4–5-hour road transfer is itself part of the experience, as lush mountain scenery gradually gives way to open grasslands and classic African landscapes.

In the afternoon, settle into a peaceful Kazinga Channel boat safari, an ideal change of pace following your gorilla trekking adventure. Cruise past large groups of hippos resting in the water and watch elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife gathering along the channel banks. The relaxed cruise offers an excellent opportunity to experience Uganda's wildlife from a different perspective.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4 — Morning Game Drive & Chimpanzee Trek

Begin with a morning game drive on the Kasenyi Plains, where lions often patrol the savannah in search of prey. In the afternoon, descend into Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee tracking, an immersive primate encounter at eye level in the forest.

Unlike the steady rhythm of gorilla trekking, chimp tracking moves at a quicker pace as the chimps climb and swing overhead, so keep your camera ready for spontaneous action shots. This well-balanced day illustrates exactly why pairing Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with Queen Elizabeth National Park creates such a rewarding short gorilla safari experience.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5 — Return to Entebbe & Departure

You're wrapping up your short gorilla safari with a smooth 6–7 hour drive back, keeping the logistics effortless. You follow the same scenic route, stopping en route for lunch, and reach Entebbe with enough time to browse the craft markets close to the airport. For this itinerary, flights departing from 6:00 pm onwards are ideal, giving you room to enjoy every last moment without feeling rushed. It's a clean, well-paced conclusion to a compact five-day journey that showcases some of Uganda's finest wildlife highlights.
