Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 — Drive to Bwindi with a memorable stop at the Equator

Your journey starts at the Uganda Equator crossing in Kayabwe, where you will witness an engaging demonstration highlighting the unique effects of being on either side of the Equator. Capture memorable photographs and browse locally crafted souvenirs before continuing through Uganda's picturesque countryside, characterized by rolling hills and traditional rural settlements. Stop for lunch at Igongo Country Hotel, then continue toward southwestern Uganda. Along the route, take in the breathtaking scenery of the Kigezi region, with its terraced hills, verdant valleys and spectacular landscapes.

Arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening and settle into your lodge situated close to the forest. In the afternoon, enjoy a community walk with visits to the indigenous Batwa people and participate in their traditional activities, including banana brewing/Waragi making and traditional healing. Unwind, enjoy a delicious dinner and get ready for the remarkable gorilla trekking experience awaiting you the following day.

Day 2 — Embark on an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience

Wake up to the peaceful atmosphere of Lake Bunyonyi, with birdsong echoing across the hills and the lake's calm waters creating a beautiful start to the day. After breakfast, set off with your packed lunch for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of Uganda's most remarkable rainforest destinations.

On arrival at the park headquarters, attend the gorilla trekking orientation led by the park team. You will receive important information about forest etiquette, personal safety, gorilla conservation, and the rules that help minimize human impact on these endangered primates. If available, the morning may also include a lively cultural presentation by the Batwa, offering insight into the traditions and heritage of the people who have long-standing ties to the Bwindi forest.

The trekking adventure then begins. Together with your ranger guide and an armed park escort, follow forest trails through Bwindi's thick vegetation as you track the gorilla family assigned to your group. There is no fixed duration for the search, as the gorillas determine the route and distance. The trek may last approximately two to six hours, sometimes involving steep slopes and uneven terrain. Along the way, the forest reveals its own treasures, from rare and colorful birds to butterflies and playful primates such as colobus and L'Hoest's monkeys.

Finding the gorillas is the highlight of the day. Once your allocated family is located, settle quietly into the forest and enjoy the permitted viewing time. Watch as these intelligent giants move through their surroundings, feed on vegetation, groom one another, care for their young, and communicate within the group. The encounter provides an intimate look at mountain gorillas in the environment they naturally call home.

Following the viewing experience, make your way back to the park headquarters. Collect your Gorilla Tracking Certificate to commemorate this exceptional wildlife adventure before beginning the journey back to your lodge at Lake Bunyonyi. Spend the evening relaxing, reflecting on the day's experience, enjoying dinner, and settling in for a comfortable overnight stay.

Day 3 — Return journey to Kampala / Entebbe Airport

Begin your morning with a leisurely breakfast while enjoying the breathtaking views surrounding this remarkable natural attraction. After breakfast, set off for Kampala or Entebbe, with a scenic drive offering a final chance to appreciate Uganda's beautiful landscapes.

Along the journey, stop for lunch at the Equator Restaurant, where you can relax, enjoy a meal, and reminisce about the unforgettable moments of your gorilla trekking experience. Continue to Kampala or Entebbe and arrive later in the afternoon. Depending on your travel arrangements, you will either be dropped off at your hotel or transferred directly to Entebbe International Airport for your onward journey.
